Fourth man charged over North Sydney murder conspiracy, NSW

Criminal Groups Squad detectives have charged a fourth man over his alleged role in a conspiracy to murder another man in Sydney’s north last year.

Strike Force Gillwinga was established by detectives from the State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad to investigate an alleged carjacking and conspiracy to murder another man at North Sydney on Saturday 14 August 2021.

During that incident, officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attempted to stop a Mercedes on Walker Street at North Sydney.

The driver failed to stop and following a short pursuit, the Mercedes was located abandoned on Miller Street, Cammeray, and seized for forensic examination.

It’s alleged the vehicle’s two occupants then approached a nearby Toyota Camry and threatened the 76-year-old male driver with a firearm, before fleeing the area in that vehicle.

Since that time, three men – aged 19, 26 and 32 – have been arrested and charged over their alleged involvement in the incident. They remain before the courts.

Following extensive further inquiries, detectives – assisted by North West Metropolitan Operation Support Group (OSG) – executed a search warrant at a unit in Epping from 6am today (Friday 7 October 2022).

Investigators from the State Crime Command’s Financial Crimes Squad assisted with the operation.

During a subsequent search, police located prohibited drugs, documentation, bank cards, cash and other items relevant to ongoing investigations.

All items were seized and will undergo further forensic examination.

A 28-year-old man was arrested at the unit and taken to Ryde Police Station.

He’s since been charged with conspire and agree to murder any person, and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

The Epping man was refused bail to appear at Hornsby Local Court today.
