Fraud arrestin Brisbane

Detectives from the Crime and Intelligence Command’s Financial and Cyber Crime Group have charged a man with four counts of fraud following investigations into alleged fraudulent activity relating to election funding.

In January 2021, police commenced an investigation after receiving a referral from the Electoral Commission of Queensland.

Detectives executed search warrants this morning (December 15) on a residential address at Hamilton and an office address at Holt Street, Eagle Farm.

A 22-year-old Hamilton man was charged with two counts of utter forged documents and one count each of attempted fraud and forgery.

Police will allege the man, a financial administrator for a political party, submitted fraudulent documentation relating to a 2020 election funding application for $24,000.

He was issued with a Notice to Appear and is due to appear at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on February 4.
