The halls came alive all across our region as Western Downs residents were entertained by some of Queensland’s most talented comedians for the ‘Not Just for Laughs’ comedy roadshow
The comedy spectacular returned to the Western Downs for its sixth year, bringing together comedians Mark McConville and Kat Davidson, as well as Mary O’Brien from ‘Are You Bogged Mate?’ and some talented local musicians to the stage.
Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh said this year’s event had seen a fantastic turnout.
“These events are about more than just having a laugh, they also remind us that, though we might feel isolated at times, we are all part of a supportive and inclusive community,” Cr McVeigh said.
“It was wonderful to have more than 300 people from across the region come together, kick back and support an event that promotes such an important message
“Living and working on the land can be a lifestyle of highs and lows, and it’s easy to feel as though you have to shoulder challenges on your own. I am extremely proud to be a part of a community that supports events like ‘Not Just for Laughs’ and that stands together to support each other when we need a hand.
“This sense of mateship and community is what makes the Western Downs such a fantastic, vibrant region to live in.”
The events, held in Brigalow, Condamine, and Kaimkillenbun, were supported by local community groups who catered the evenings and manned bars and canteens. Their support was not only essential to the success of the evenings but also provided fund-raising opportunities for community projects.
