To support our local businesses, Nillumbik Shire Council is offering a free delivery service to local residents during Stage 4 COVID-19 restrictions.
Shop Local Nillumbik is available to all businesses in Nillumbik free of charge for deliveries of non-perishable items to residents within the Shire.
The service operates three days a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday – with goods picked up by our delivery driver from three collection points – Hurstbridge, Diamond Creek and Eltham and delivered to homes within Nillumbik.
The types of items that can be delivered including clothing, homewares, books, kitchenware, newspapers and magazines, stationary, sporting equipment, hardware and tools. No food items are able to be delivered.
Deliveries will be made by Sportsbus, a recently established local transport business that shuttles sporting teams around the suburbs. This business is one of many that has been unable to operate due to the impact of COVID-19 restrictions.
Nillumbik Mayor Karen Egan said the new service aimed to assist businesses, especially those forced to close their doors during the latest restriction.
“Many businesses are doing it tough and this is one small way we can help them continue trading during these difficult circumstances,” Cr Egan said.
“At the same time, while we encourage our residents to shop local, we want them to do that safely from home.
“If you are a trader, we hope you can take advantage of this free service. Or if you are a resident and have a favourite local store, please encourage them to sign up.”
The pilot program will run until Monday 7 September unless otherwise notified. Terms & conditions apply.
