RSPCA WA is excited to bring their well-attended (CAD) initiative to the City of Melville at Pups in the Park on Saturday, 19 October.
Pet owners who may be struggling to afford vet care or food for their four-legged companion can find the RSPCA WA pop-up CAD at Winnacott Reserve, 33 Winnacott Street, Willagee from 12 noon to 3pm.
RSPCA WA’s vet team and volunteers will be on hand to perform health checks and microchipping for dogs, give out flea and worming treatments for cats and dogs and hand out free cat and dog food.
Pet owners are also encouraged to chat to our friendly staff about dog training tips and other queries.
RSPCA WA Executive Manager Animal and Enforcement Operations Hannah Dreaver said more and more pet owners were asking for help amidst the cost-of-living and housing crises.
“Nearly a third of requests from people looking to surrender their animals this year have related to cost-of-living and housing issues,” she said.
“Our 2023-24 cruelty statistics show an increase in animals not receiving adequate food and water and pet owners not taking their animals to the vet soon enough.
“It’s hoped this support will ease some pressure on family budgets and help stop small health problems for pets from becoming big and expensive ones.”
People are welcome to bring social, vaccinated dogs and puppies along to the event on leash. Due to welfare concerns, cats cannot attend. Any puppies who have not had all of their vaccinations must be held at all times.
Winnacott Reserve is usually an off-leash venue, but for this event, all dogs must be kept on-leash at all times.
