Mildura Rural City Council will mark 2023 Refugee Week with a special movie event at Wallis Cinema this week.
The event will be held at 7pm on Friday 23 June, featuring a free screening of the movie ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ as well as guest speakers sharing their refugee experiences.
Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Community Development Helen Healy said ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ pays homage to this year’s Refugee Week theme – Finding Freedom – which aims to promote harmony and togetherness while acting as a reminder that regardless of our differences, we all share a common humanity.
“This year’s theme for Refugee Week should really resonate with our community given our region’s wonderfully rich and ever evolving multicultural make up,” Cr Healy said.
“Our welcoming community is often home to people with refugee experiences from a range of different countries, making Refugee Week more relevant than ever in the Mildura region.”
The family-friendly animated film follows the character, Oh, a misfit from another planet, who lands on Earth and finds himself on the run from his own people.
Oh forms an unlikely friendship with a girl named Tip who is on a quest of her own.
Through a series of adventures, Oh comes to understand that being different and making mistakes is all part of being human.
