Free Spring workshops at Pakenham and Emerald Libraries

Cardinia Shire Council and Casey Cardinia Libraries have partnered to host four free workshops throughout September and November to help residents learn about a range of waste and environment topics.

The workshops, held at Pakenham and Emerald libraries, will tackle practical topics, and provide core skills to attendees to use at home, including:

  • how to start a worm farm
  • ways to conserve and use water to maintain a healthy and productive home garden
  • how to reduce food waste and save on grocery bills
  • how to identify and control weeds safely at home.

Places in each workshop are limited and registration for each event is required.

Worm Farm Workshop

From 1.30 – 3.00pm on Saturday 3 September 2022 at Pakenham Library (corner John St &, Henry St, Pakenham)

Water wise gardening

From 2.30 – 3.30pm on Saturday 5 November 2022 at Pakenham Library (corner John St &, Henry St, Pakenham)

Water is critical to a garden’s success. As the climate changes we need to take care with how we capture and use water. Council is hosting a free workshop to help you conserve water and maintain a healthy and productive garden. Topics will include how to reduce water usage, water smart technologies, irrigation options and understanding the importance of indigenous plants and soil.

Cooking with food scraps

From 11am – 12pm on Saturday 12 November 2022 at Emerald Library (400A Belgrave-Gembrook Rd, Emerald)

Join Cardinia Shire Council and Open Table to learn how to reduce your food waste and save money on groceries. We will have a live demonstration cooking Veggie Scrap Fritters, with lots of delicious ideas to use leftover food and a taste test. Participants will be provided with the recipe to take home to continue their zero food waste journey. One lucky participant will win a zero waste cooking door prize on the day!

World of weeds

From 10.30 – 11.30am on Saturday 26 November 2022 at Emerald Library (400A Belgrave-Gembrook Rd, Emerald)

Weeds are a threat to local flora and fauna. Weeds compete with native plants for space, light, nutrients, and water and often win in battle! Council is hosting a free workshop to help you identify and control weeds safely at home.
