Fancy a free lunch and an informative day out?
Get along to a free tour of one of MidCoast Council’s water and sewage treatment facilities this ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Water Week.
Tours will be held at the following locations:
- Bootawa Water Treatment Plant – Wednesday 23 October, 11am-1pm
- Gloucester Water Treatment Plant and Cemetery Road reservoir site – Saturday 26 October, 10am-1pm
- Forster Sewage Treatment Plant and Tuncurry Recycled Water Treatment Plant – Saturday 26 October, 10am-2pm
Council’s Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Services, Rob Scott, said the tours were proving increasingly popular with the public.
“Last year we held tours at our Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest facilities and the Bootawa Water Treatment Plant and both events attracted capacity numbers,” said Mr Scott.
“People really enjoy going behind the scenes and learning how the whole process works. Our staff ensure it’s an interesting and enjoyable day and everyone who attends walks away with a greater appreciation of the work that goes into providing the community with safe and reliable water and sewerage services.”
Mr Scott said it was particularly exciting to offer the public a tour of the Tuncurry Recycled Water Treatment Plant.
“This facility will provide people with a glimpse into the future because as Australia’s population grows, the use of recycled water is going to become more and more common,” he said.
“We’re already doing quite a lot in the MidCoast with our recycled water schemes at Tuncurry and Tea Gardens, where we treat wastewater to a standard high enough to irrigate sports fields, golf courses and other public spaces.”
A complementary lunch will be provided at each tour. Bookings are essential.
