Are you a local builder, plumber, landscaper, contractor or earthmover? Ballina Shire Council is inviting the local construction industry to a FREE erosion and sediment control training workshop on Tuesday 2 July to help protect our environment and beautiful waterways.
The workshop will be held on Tuesday 2 July from 5pm to 6.30pm in the Gawandii Room at the Ballina Surf Club, 65 Lighthouse Parade East Ballina.
Come along and hear more about:
- Why is sediment an issue for the environment
- why keeping your soil on your site is so important
- practical ways to meet erosion and sediment control requirements
- how erosion can occur
- how sediment can be contained
- how you can lawfully accept or dispose of fill/soil.
Allowing soil, litter, vegetation debris and other contaminants to enter our stormwater system can lead to fish kills, algal blooms, sedimentation of waterways and public health risks.
The fine for allowing soil, sediment, slurry or any other material to leave a construction site is up to $45,000 under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997. This can also include other material such as leaf litter, mower clippings, paint and oils.
Finger food and refreshments will be provided and attendees will earn continuing professional development points (CPD).
