Workshops across the shire in May and June will provide an opportunity for Committee of Management volunteers to improve their skills and identify any opportunities for improvement at their facility.
East Gippsland Shire Council, which arranged the workshops, supports 77 volunteer Committees of Management which oversee a range of community facilities including community halls, sporting grounds, recreation reserves and indoor recreation facilities.
Committees of Management have been sent invitations to the workshops, while user groups are also encouraged to attend.
Mayor Cr Natalie O’Connell said Committees of Management do a fantastic job to provide places for people to spend time with friends and family.
“Many people may not know their local sporting ground, or the hall where they hold their meetings or craft sessions are managed by a volunteer committee,” Cr O’Connell said.
“These volunteers do a great job and carry many responsibilities for the operation of the sites, working with any user groups and planning for the future needs of the community.
“The activities held at these facilities are critical in creating and building a sense of community and improving our residents’ health and wellbeing.”
The workshops will provide information on:
- good governance;
- how to identify areas for improvement;
- understanding the role of the committee in planning;
- better understanding financials; and
- managing potential risks and conflicts.
The workshops will be held as follows:
- Swifts Creek: Wednesday, May 29
- Bairnsdale: Thursday, May 30
- Buchan: Friday, May 31
- Lakes Entrance: Wednesday, June 12
- Orbost: Thursday, June 13
- Cann River: Friday, June 14
