Entries are now open for this year’s FReeZA Youth Art Prize, providing a chance for the region’s talented young artists to showcase their work to the broader community.

The competition is open to local artists aged 12 to 25, taking in all art forms and genres, including drawing, painting, photography, graphic design and 3D work.

Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Min Poole said the competition was a chance for young people to have their work noticed while exploring their artistic talent.

“We’re fortunate in our region to have a strong talent pool of young artists and this is the perfect way to promote and encourage them,” Cr Poole said.

“By taking part in the FReeZA Youth Art Prize it’s our hope that it encourages young people to put their skills to work, perhaps even pushing themselves to broaden or expand their interest in the arts.

“From a community perspective, the fact that all entries will go on public display for a month throughout the competition means we can gain a greater appreciation of how talented our young people are, which will hopefully encourage them to continue developing their skills.”

Entries will be taken until 5pm on Monday 29 July and can be dropped off at the Mildura Visitor Information and Booking Centre (MVIBC) any time between 9am and 5.30pm on Tuesday 30 July.

Winners will be announced on Wednesday 21 August at a special event at the MVIBC starting at 5.30pm. One winner will be awarded in each artistic section and year level, each receiving a $100 prize. There will also be an opportunity to win another $200 for the overall ‘Peoples’ Choice’ award.
