Fresh air, music and food trucks puts Kingston into a good ‘Skate of Mind’
The Kingston Youth Services FReeZA P81 Events Committee presents their first big event of the year: Skate of Mind 2022. The drug, alcohol, and smoke free day-out, will be full of entertainment and a great chance for young people to join in/watch competitions or just have a good time with friends.
Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos said that Skate of Mind 2022 is a great opportunity for the youth of Kingston to come together and celebrate being out of lockdown in a positive way.
“This is a fun and engaging event that allows young people to enjoy being outdoors in a safe environment where they can watch skateboarding and basketball competitions while listening to live music from local youth acts. Our young people have shown great resilience during the pandemic, and we’re happy to put on an event where they can relax and enjoy themselves,” Cr Staikos said.
Longbeach Ward Councillor Georgina Oxley said that the Skate of Mind event is for young people of all skill levels.
“Whether a practiced pro, or a novice just starting out, Skate of Mind has something to offer everyone interested in skateboarding and basketball,” Cr Oxley said.
“Skateboarding has been shown to be helpful in developing a sense of achievement in young people. It creates feelings of connection as they are part of a community and allows them to express their skills with others who share their interest.”
Attendees can also enjoy the event without competition. They’ll be live musical performances from local youth acts and spectators can watch the amazing young people battle it out in the competitions held throughout the day. There’ll also be food trucks onsite during the event, for anyone who wants to enjoy lunch in the fresh air.
Please note, all attendees will be required to check into the event via QR code and all competitors must be 12-25 years of age with a connection to the City of Kingston (live, work, study).
