Eurobodalla Council welcomed eleven new trainees and apprentices this week.
Council has been running its trainee program for more than a decade, providing local young people with employment and skills development. The February 2022 intake filled positions ranging from business administration to civil construction.
Nicholas Marsh made the move from Ulladulla to join Council’s infrastructure team as a civil construction apprentice.
“I was looking for an employer offering a bit more structure and future opportunity to further my career,” Mr Marsh said.
“I’m looking to gain a lot of experience while studying for a Certificate III in Civil Construction.”
Batemans Bay’s Chelsea Russell joined Council’s Customer Service Team for a traineeship in business administration. Chelsea said she enjoyed working with people and her previous retail career would stand her in good stead.
“I think I will get a lot more experience here at Council,” Ms Russell said.
“I’ve always wanted to work in business, so I see this role as both learning opportunity and career move.”
Council’s general manager Catherine Dale said the trainee and apprenticeship programs continued to be very successful in a region where young locals often struggle to find employment.
“Here they are provided on-the-job experience alongside formal training. Council also gains from the fresh perspectives and energy these keen learners bring and it is particularly heartening to see many of them choose to stay on after they complete their studies.”
