Following storms this week, we have a lot of debris lying around across our Shire, along with varying degrees of damage.
Our Disaster Recovery Committee wishes to advise those impacted by the storms to:
- Contact the SES for emergency assistance with damage on private property
- Contact Council directly for damage to public property
Our Ops Team is working hard to clean up, especially in our parks and gardens which suffered significant damage. The walking paths around Lake Victoria and Princes Park have now been re-opened.
To help the community with their clean-up efforts, we have free tip vouchers for those impacted by storms, to assist with disposal of debris. The vouchers are available in person from our Customer Service Centre, 22 Nolan Street, Maryborough.
SEALING THE FUTURE
Contractors have completed full asphalt re-sealing on Victor, Webb and Hillview Courts, Maryborough.
The completion of Frost Avenue was delayed by storms on Tuesday but has since been completed.
Our targeted grading program has been completed around Dunolly, Bung Bong, Maryborough and Majorca. Grading over summer is limited by hot weather due to rapid water evaporation, however milder conditions up until this week have allowed vital improvement works to proceed.
SAFETY CHATS
Our Local Laws Team have asked that parents speak with children about ensuring they use school crossings whenever possible.
School crossing areas are generally much safer due to the reduced speed limits surrounding them. Young people should be reminded to dismount from bikes, and to avoid using mobile phones when crossing.
Parents and carers are also asked to use crossings when around schools, to set a good example in front of younger children, even if accompanying them back to a vehicle.
CLIMATE RALLY
The Central Goldfields Climate Action Stewarding Group is celebrating our community’s achievements since 2020 and the community is invited to attend.
There will be stalls, activities for the kids, a Devonshire Tea solar panel fundraiser for the Senior Citizens Club, guest speakers and new website launch.
Festivities commence 10am Saturday, 17 February at Phillips Gardens, cnr Alma & Inkerman streets.
POWER AHEAD
Contractors have commenced work to replace and upgrade the electrical switchboards and emergency lighting systems at the Maryborough Town Hall.
The project is funded through the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.
TALBOT EVENTS
Market Weekend
The much-loved Talbot Town Hall Community Market will be re-launched this Sunday, 18 February at 9am.
The Market is managed by volunteers as part of the Town Hall Committee of Management, who are passionate about seeing the Market return to its strong community-based roots.
Previously known as the Talbot Town Hall Market, it will continue in co-operation with Talbot Farmer’s Market.
New stallholders and volunteers for the Market are most welcome and can visit the new, Talbot Town Hall Community Market Facebook page.
