The solar-powered Southern Ocean food chain is unique, going from some of the smallest organisms to the largest animal to ever live, in just a few short steps.

Energy from the sun is captured by microscopic marine plants that are eaten by Antarctic krill which in turn are consumed by Antarctic blue whales.

To celebrate ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Science Week, Australian Antarctic Program scientists are sharing their research on whales and their prey, krill.
