Organisations across the
municipality, stretching from the North to the Bellarine, have been successful
in receiving the City’s 2019/2020 Community Infrastructure Grant.
The grant, which has increased to
$3.1million for this financial year, is distributed to support community
upgrades and additions, in line with Geelong’s vision, Greater Geelong: A
Clever and Creative Future, and the Council’s strategic objectives as outlined
in the Council Plan.
Grant recipients were congratulated
and presented with certificates from Councillors Anthony Aitken, Pat Murnane,
Trent Sullivan, Peter Murrihy, and Jim Mason at City Hall last night for the
City’s annual Community Infrastructure Grants formalities.
Among the crowd were
representatives from the 30 successful community groups, who receive a share of
the $3.1m budget to deliver a total of $8.01m worth of project costs.
Portarlington Football Club, Rotary
Club of Ocean Grove, Geelong City Cricket Club, Lara Football Club, and the
Serbian Parish Youth Club are among the recipients.
The Lara Football Club will receive
a $350,000 lighting upgrade, which will make the reserve a safer place to play,
run, and walk for those who use the main oval.
The upgrade coincides with the Lara
Recreation Reserve Master Plan that will see new facilities, netball courts,
car parking, and walking tracks around the reserve that currently hosts more
than 1,500 sporting participants across netball, football, cricket, soccer,
lawn bowls, tennis, and baseball.
The Serbian Paris Youth Club in
Corio has also been successful in receiving $77,843 to renovate and upgrade
facilities to accommodate people with a disability and include ambulant and
baby change facilities for their many members.
The Club focuses on maintaining a
strong sense of Serbian Community in Geelong, whilst teaching young kids the
Serbian language, the national folk dance and for socialisation.
Through the City’s grants program,
our community becomes a more inclusive, safe, clever, and creative place to
live.
The next round of grant
applications for Community Events, Central Geelong Heritage, Healthy and
Connected Communities, and ‘This Girl Can’ 2020 Grants open Saturday 1
February.
