From a small railway town to a vibrant metropolitan community, Midland has grown rapidly in recent decades, and the City of Swan is now reviewing the Local Area Plan to help shape how the region develops in the future.
Community members are invited to have their say about everything that matters to them in the Midland area; everything from what makes the area great, what would help it become even better and any new or different ideas or issues for the City to consider.
All this information will be used to help the City prioritise new projects and plan for the future.
Feedback is gathered using the City’s interactive online consultation platform which allows community members to geographically pinpoint their comments – for example, you could highlight that a particular street needs more lighting or footpaths.
Local Area Plans are important documents used by the City to plan for specific areas, address local community issues and meet their future needs.
City of Swan Mayor Kevin Bailey said Midland continues to evolve at a fast pace, and with the City’s population set to double in the next 30 years, the LAP will help to define community aspirations and what work the City should prioritise.
“Midland has always been a junction for people, rail and roads, and this has shaped its future to be a key strategic metropolitan centre.
“It is a place with incredible community spirit, unique heritage and plenty of opportunity, and the City’s priority is to ensure we’re meeting changing community needs and growth, while still celebrating what sets us apart.”
“I strongly encourage everyone to get involved and consider how we can work together to deliver a bright future for Midland and our community.”
Midland/Guildford Ward Councillor Claire Scanlan said many major projects have progressed since the previous LAP, which was developed in 2014.
“Key projects underway for the area include the new Midland Hospital and health precinct, Curtin University Midland Campus, redevelopment of the Railway Workshops, and Midland Oval,” she said.
“Other exciting projects on the way include relocating Midland Train Station, major renovations of Swan Active Midland, ongoing planning for future aged care developments and the extension of Lloyd Street over the Helena River through Hazelmere.”
The community consultation runs until March 31 through our online consultation platform, available at
