It was a fun-filled two weeks for local youth who got involved in our FUN ‘Da’ MENTAL youth project this July! Our guiding committee of young people from our community came up with some great suggestions for school holiday activities, and a whopping 176 registrations were quickly snapped up.
“From skateboarding and tai-chi, to weaving jewellery, marbling paper and creating puppets, the holiday workshops provided so many opportunities for our young people to explore different aspects of their creativity,” Said Corinne Buxton, Wingecarribee Shires Council’s Coordinator, Community Development.
The pottery workshops by Geoff McKinnon and circus workshops by Zero Central were a hit in Mittagong and Robertson. All were well attended and everyone had a great time learning new skills and techniques.
In just one week, we accomplished the creation of art for an exhibition, gained knowledge on curating and hanging art, and successfully launched the showcase of young people’s work. This art exhibition grand finale of the FUN ‘Da’ MENTAL project is still on display at Creative Space for another week – so if you haven’t been along to be inspired by the diversity of creativity and talent of our local young people, please pop by to see it!
While this was the last of holiday activities offered under the first round of funding for our Fun ‘Da’ Mental program, Council looks forward to collaborating with the youth of our Shire to pursue further funding opportunities toward initiatives outlined in our Youth Strategy and Action Plan 2016-2026.
