It was a capacity crowd, with record funds raised and smiles all around, at this year’s Bridge to Brisbane.
Queensland’s largest fun run – the Sunday Mail Transurban Bridge to Brisbane – saw a sell-out crowd of 30,000 runners and walkers taking on Brisbane’s Gateway Bridge on Sunday 15 October.
This annual event, with both 10km and 4.5km races, raises money for South East Queensland charities, with participants pounding the pavement for a cause close to their heart.
Our own, 350-strong Team Transurban, raised a record $417,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland, thanks to the support of our business partners, suppliers, employees, family and friends. This will fund the charity’s in-hospital emergency accommodation (located inside the Queensland Children’s Hospital) for another year, supporting the families of seriously ill children in intensive care.
In the 11 years Transurban has supported Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland, we have donated more than $2.4 million to the charity, helping it continue providing this important service to affected families.
This year’s Bridge to Brisbane event was the first time our Transurban Queensland Network Operations Centre served as the event’s command centre. Our traffic control room operators managed the event’s road closures and also kept a watchful eye on proceedings alongside emergency services, traffic control and event personnel.
The 2023 event, including Team Transurban’s fundraising contributions, has raised (so far) almost $1.2 million for various South East Queensland charities, with more funds to be donated in coming weeks.
