Community sport organisations across NSW are set to benefit from more than $3.5 million in funding thanks to the NSW Government’s Local Sport Grants Program.
Minister for Sport Alister Henskens said 592 projects will be funded across the State which will encourage people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the benefits of sport and active recreation.
“Grassroots sport plays a critical role in the fabric of our communities, keeping people healthy, active and socially connected,” Mr Henskens said.
“This funding will provide a cash injection to help improve sport facilities, enhance accessibility and hold new and exciting events and development programs.
“So, whether you are jumping fences at Culcairn & District Pony Club, shooting goals at Ballina Bin Chooks Water Polo Club, dribbling past defenders at Macarthur Magic Football Club, or hitting an ace at Canterbury Bankstown Tennis Association, these grants will play a vital role in giving everyone a chance to enjoy the sports they love.”
Since 2017 the NSW Liberal and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s Government has invested more than $2 billion in grassroots community sport, through infrastructure grant programs and the nation-leading Active Kids voucher program.
Grants of between $2,000 and $10,000 per project were available with up to $50,000 available in each electorate.
East Albury Tennis Club Secretary Lynne Aylmore said its wonderful news to hear that the Club has been successful in receiving a grant through the program.
“East Albury Tennis Club holds night tennis competitions on Wednesday and Thursday nights and have been planning for some time to upgrade the halogen lights to LED,” Ms Aylmore said.
“With the $10,000 grant we will be able to implement the improvement with lighting immediately which will be of great benefit to the players, who at present were finding the lighting not optimum to play under.”
