The Federal Government has committed over $1.2 million dollars in funding to upgrade the Swan Hill Aerodrome.
Swan Hill Rural City Council’s Director Infrastructure, Svetla Petkova said that the funding would extend the life of critical infrastructure at the Swan Hill Aerodrome.
“The project would keep the Swan Hill Aerodrome operational for many years and give greater access to emergency services,” she said.
The upgrade will include:
- Reinforcement of two ends of the current primary 1495m sealed runway.
- Resurface the natural runway with gravel to create a secondary runway.
- Reseal the entire runway surface for the full 30m width.
- Rehabilitation and strengthening of the existing taxiway from the apron to the main runway.
A dedicated aircraft parking apron.
- The installation of an automated Weather Station to enhance the current dial up process.
- Additional Hanger Space with graveled access road; associated drainage and sealed taxiway.
- Provision for Jet A1 fuel facility
- Provision for increased electrical supply and Replacement of pilot activated lighting system
- Maintenance and renovations of the existing terminal building
Ms Petkova said an automated Weather Station will enhance the current dial up process.
“This has been a priority for users, and we are excited to be able to deliver on this as well as increase the level of safety.
Ms Petkova said the Aerodrome upgrade was necessary to ensure that ageing infrastructure at the Swan Hill airport continued to serve the Swan Hill community.
“This upgrade will ensure the ongoing viability of the Swan Hill aerodrome for decades to come.
Ms Petkova said improved safety was a significant aim of this project.
Consultation is open until Thursday, 27 August for anyone wishing to provide comment.
The Swan Hill aerodrome renewal project is expected to be completed by June 2022.
