The City of Whittlesea has welcomed an announcement of $2.7 million in Victorian Government funding towards the construction of a new $11.4 million community centre in Donnybrook.
Danielle Green MP, Member for Yan Yean, announced the Victorian Government would provide $2 million from its Growing Suburbs Fund and $709,500 from its Living Libraries Infrastructure Program to support Council’s investment into the multipurpose facility, designed to offer something for people of all ages.
Conveniently located next to the future primary school, the centre will include a two-room kindergarten, maternal and child health consulting suites, a library service, a community hall, as well as flexible spaces for youth programs, social support services, private functions and community group programs and activities.
City of Whittlesea Chair Administrator Lydia Wilson said that with the population of Donnybrook set to soar to over 52,000 people in the next 20 years, it was important that community infrastructure was in place to meet the expected demand.
“Council is committed to creating a versatile space that meets the diverse needs of our vibrant and growing community,” Ms Wilson said.
“The centre is being designed to complement the existing Olivine Place neighbourhood facility and to provide additional community programs and essential services to support our City’s booming population.”
