Funding enriches regional art and culture

  • Local governments receive funding for creative and cultural development
  • Five local regional governments share in a total of $164,922
  • Funding is part of the Regional Arts and Cultural Investment Program (RACIP)

Local governments across the State are receiving support to undertake cultural planning, thanks to the latest round of culture and arts funding from the McGowan Government.

The Leveraged Creative and Cultural Planning (LCCP) Grants Program encourages regional local governments to develop creative and cultural plans and deliver associated activities. The funding aims to inspire deeper community connections to art and culture, and to enrich the sector.

Funding was available in two areas towards the direct costs associated with developing a creative and cultural plan or implementing arts and cultural activities identified within a published creative and cultural plan.

Receiving a total amount of $164,922, the recipients of the 2022 to 2023 round of LCCP funding are:

  • Shire of Morawa – $25,000 for a feasibility study for an arts centre, gallery and workshop space;
  • City of Albany – $22,132 for a series of workshops to equip local artists and creatives with the business, marketing and practical skills required to support their success as art practitioners;
  • Shire of Coolgardie – $46,000 to develop their first creative and cultural plan;
  • City of Karratha – $46,220 to develop an arts development and events strategy; and
  • Shire of Ravensthorpe – $25,570 to develop an arts and culture plan.

The LCCP is part of the Regional Arts and Cultural Investment Program which supports the planning, development, engagement and delivery of arts and cultural activities in regional and remote Western Australia.

As stated by Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman:

“A healthy arts and culture scene is crucial to the vibrancy and liveability of our regional communities.

“It’s exciting to see local governments around the State actively embracing this and taking steps to develop creative and cultural plans with the support of funding from the McGowan Government.

“The plans and activities will promote the value of arts, culture and heritage, and facilitate projects that foster the regional creative and cultural industries.”

As stated by Regional Development Minister Don Punch:

“The Leveraged Creative and Cultural Planning Grants Program not only supports the development of a vibrant arts sector in our regions but also generates economic and jobs growth in communities.

“These grants will also enable regional communities to better connect to other State funding programs, including the WA Regional Screen Fund and the Regional Exhibition Touring Boost to maximise local impact.

“I look forward to seeing the activities and opportunities that develop as a result of this funding to local governments throughout regional Western Australia.”
