More than $28,000 will be provided to local organisations to fund events commemorating significant First Peoples events as part of Council’s commitment to reconciliation.
The events funded are:
- $14,323 to The Maraway for the Cairns 30th Mabo Day Celebration on 3 June
- $4,500 to Cairns Rovers Cricket Club for the NAIDOC Week Carnival between 8 and 10 July
- $6,429 in-kind support to Deadly Inspiring Youth Doing Good for the NAIDOC Committees’ “Friday in the Park” NAIDOC week celebration on 8 July
- $3,250 to UMI Arts for the Big Talk One Fire Art Symposium.
