The City of Casey has been successful in securing funding via the State Government’s Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution (GAIC) fund to support the delivery of some important local infrastructure and transport projects.
GAIC is levied by the State Government for state related infrastructure, such as land for schools, some public transport infrastructure, as well as land and construction of facilities for emergency services.
Council successfully received funding to deliver the following projects:
- Craig Road, Botanic Ridge: shared user path design and construction – $1,333,860
- Soldiers Road, Berwick: shared user path development – $555,673
The State Government also announced the following projects to be delivered by the State:
- Land acquisition for the new CFA Clyde Fire Station – $4,230,000
- Extended bus service on Casey Bells Road in Casey – Route 831 – $23,670,000
- Bus service extension to Clyde North via Hardys Road in Casey – Route 798 – $16,227,000
City of Casey Chair of Administrators Noelene Duff PSM said the funding will help create connected, liveable communities across the municipality.
“We thank the State Government for its contribution towards these important projects which will be of great benefit to our ever-growing community,” Ms Duff said.
“Extended bus services and more cycling and walking paths will give residents improved access to employment, schools and services, such as health care and recreational facilities.
“The significant funding for the land acquisition for the new fire station in Clyde is also welcome. Once built, the station will provide crucial emergency infrastructure for the local community.”
Funding applications were also submitted for the following two projects, however Council was unsuccessful in our funding bids towards these projects via the GAIC.
Women’s Centre of Excellence, Casey Fields: Identified within the Casey Fields Masterplan, this project would provide significant social, economic, health and wellbeing benefits to the growing Casey community, and the south-east region more broadly.
Alexander Boulevard Community Hub/Library, Clyde North: Identified within the Cardinia Creek South PSP and guided by the Alexander Boulevard Precinct Masterplan, an integrated Hub/Library would address a significant undersupply of community infrastructure in this area of the municipality.
“The Women’s Centre of Excellence and the community hub/library all have regional significance and would be very welcome by Casey’s growing community,” Ms Duff said.
“The City of Casey will continue to advocate and explore other funding opportunities for these important projects.
“These projects will provide significant social, economic, health and wellbeing benefits to the growing Casey community, and the south-east region more broadly. In the case of the community/ library hub, this would also help address the undersupply of community infrastructure in this area of the municipality.
“Our growing population needs more investment than ever before, and we are excited to work with our State and Federal representatives to see these projects progressed.”
