The McGowan Government will provide almost $85,000 to Bunbury’s Doors Wide Open to continue delivering critical support services to families and individuals experiencing methamphetamine issues in the South-West region.
Doors Wide Open has established a drop-in centre in Bunbury, supported by a $100,000 grant through the McGowan Government’s Local Projects, Local Jobs program.
This additional funding will ensure Doors Wide Open can continue to provide support services in Bunbury, as it secures a path to financial sustainability.
The McGowan Government is tackling methamphetamine issues through the Methamphetamine Action Plan with initiatives including the expansion of the Police Mental Health Co-response teams; planning for a trial of compulsory crisis intervention; and a one-stop, 24-hour support service to better support individuals and families in need.
As stated by Mental Health Minister Roger Cook:
“Doors Wide Open are doing an incredible job in providing support services for Bunbury families dealing with methamphetamine issues, now servicing more than 900 contacts per month.
“Our Government is committed to dealing with the major problem of methamphetamine use across the community, and we are proud to support organisations like Doors Wide Open that make such a difference.
“I also want to recognise Bunbury MLA Don Punch for his ongoing advocacy for initiatives to deal with methamphetamine issues in the South-West.”
