The Liberal ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Government continues to boost Northern Australia with the announcement of more than $18 million (inc. GST) for Industry Transformation and Business Development projects in Townsville under the Northern Australia Development Program.
Minister for Agriculture and Northern Australia David Littleproud said the program has been a resounding success and will provide almost $88 million (inc. GST) in total funding to assist businesses to tackle the unique challenges that exist in the north.
“The Northern Australia Development Program provides an opportunity for local businesses to transform not only their own business, but also their communities by creating new jobs and opportunities to attract people to the north” Minister Littleproud said.
More than $18 million (inc. GST) has been announced in Townsville for four local projects across the electorates of Herbert and Dawson including:
- $4.91 million – Gough Industries (Herbert)
- $1.74 million – Jean Pierre Patisserie (Herbert)
- $935,000 – Bridgeman Agencies (Herbert)
- $11 million – Wulguru Steel (Dawson)
Federal Member for Herbert Phil Thompson OAM said this funding will greatly benefit the community of Townsville.
“These are fantastic local businesses which will now be able to grow and expand thanks to this funding, creating more jobs for locals, and keeping them strong well into the future,” Mr Thompson said.
“We want to see more things being manufactured and maintained here in Townsville and that’s exactly what businesses like Gough Industries and Wulguru Group are going to be doing, which is why I’ve been so supportive of their applications.”
Federal candidate for Dawson Andrew Willcox said only the Liberal ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ party understands the important role that northern Australia does, and will continue to play, in Australia’s economic growth and that is why the coalition is committed to giving local communities like Townsville the boost needed to grow stronger for the future.
