Under a Matt Guy Liberal Government Myrtle Park in Balwyn North will receive the necessary funding to undertake a major upgrade to its ageing facilities.
Balwyn Saints & Blasters Cricket Club and the Balwyn North Stingers Baseball Club both use Myrtle Park’s sporting facilities and have been calling on upgrades to meet the needs of their expanding teams.
The current facilities are dark and poorly ventilated and are in need of an urgent upgrade. Further, the pavilion does not contain female bathrooms or changerooms and is unsuitable for the needs of both clubs.
The Liberals’ funding commitment of $1.2 million will deliver upgrades, including:
- Separated male and female bathroom facilities with dedicated access.
- New kitchen facilities for healthy food preparation.
- Additional secure storage spaces.
Shadow Minister for Sport, Cindy McLeish, said this announcement will deliver a modern centre for the clubs to call home.
“Anything that helps encourage Victorians to get active or participate in local sporting groups is a win for the community.”
“Only a Matt Guy Liberal Government will support grassroots sporting clubs and all who participate.”
Liberal Candidate for Kew, Jess Wilson, said the clubs have strong ties to the community and are seeing significant interest for female participation.
“Our commitment will mean the clubs, and female players in particular, will no longer have to put up with facilities that do not meet their needs.”
“I’ve been working closely with these local clubs over many months and after listening to their concerns, we’re acting to deliver the commitment they need to improve the facilities at Myrtle Park.”
“The Liberals will encourage growing female participation in grassroots sports and help make Myrtle Park one of the premiere sporting facilities in Balwyn North.”
