Financial Crime Squad detectives have charged another man over his alleged role in a criminal syndicate involved in the theft of vehicles across Sydney.
In November last year, detectives from the Financial Crime Squad’s Motor Unit established Strike Force Swete to investigate criminal syndicates involved in break-in offences across Sydney.
Following further inquiries, police stopped a Holden Commodore travelling in Doonside just before 6.30am on Tuesday (28 September 2021).
The driver – a 19-year-old man – was arrested and taken to Mount Druitt Police Station.
His vehicle, a mobile phone and other items were seized for forensic examination.
A search warrant was subsequently executed at a home at Doonside, where officers seized steroids, two motorcycles – one of which was stolen and the other rebirthed – and more than $3,000 cash.
Following inquiries, the man was charged with 11 offences, including;
• Aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence (x4),
• steal motor vehicle (x4),
• aggravated break and enter with intent – knowing person there (x2), and,
• participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.
Police will allege in court that the Doonside man was involved in a criminal syndicate responsible for a number of break and enter offences across the Sydney metropolitan area.
He appeared at Mount Druitt Local Court that day, where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on Wednesday 22 December 2021.
Since its inception last year, Strike Force Swete investigators have charged 14 men and laid 242 charges relating to the theft of vehicles, and break and enter of homes, across Sydney.
In addition, detectives have recovered and seized 14 stolen vehicles.
Inquiries continue and more arrests are expected.
