Future Morwell Project Update: Latrobe City Council

The Morwell CBD Revitalisation project, set to rebrand Morwell as the Town of Gardens, is now in its final stages. Latrobe City Council Mayor Councillor Dan Clancey has advised the local community that Tarwin Street works have begun to take shape and traffic is estimated to return to normal by mid-May.

The significant revitalisation works form part of a larger State Government-funded initiative known as the Future Morwell project, led by Latrobe City Council and a community-based steering group. Cr Clancey said the project aimed to reshape Morwell by celebrating its unique qualities and promoting a sense of the town as an attractive and thriving place to live, work, and visit.

“The Future Morwell project has been a long time coming and the community has been extremely patient as the Morwell CBD has been given an extensive facelift. We thank all the business owners, customers and residents for being so understanding during this time,” he said.

Cr Clancey said that in addition to CBD revitalisation works, the Morwell Entrance Project had commenced with the planting of trees and the creation of garden beds adjacent to the Commercial road freeway exit. A unique Morwell town sign is also set to be installed following a tender process.

“Giving Morwell a facelift is more than planting a few trees and fixing the roads, it’s also about establishing Morwell as the Town of Gardens,” Cr Clancey said. “Morwell is home to one of Australia’s best rose gardens and hosts an international rose garden festival that draws thousands of people each year. Using this project to rejuvenate Morwell is a critical part of the renewal and transition of the town.”
