G20 Finance Ministers’ and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting in Indonesia

Australian Treasury

Today I will travel to Jakarta, Indonesia to attend the G20 Finance Ministers’ and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting from 17 to 18 February 2022.

The G20 is the premier forum for international economic cooperation, bringing together the world’s major advanced economies representing 75 per cent of all global trade.

This is the first ministerial meeting of the G20 under the Indonesian presidency and the first I will physically attend since the pandemic began. Australia is committed to supporting Indonesia in their presidency year, recognising the longstanding relationship between our two nations.

Australia’s attendance underscores the importance of Australia’s partnership with Indonesia and our active support and engagement with Indonesia and the rest of the G20 membership to deliver an ambitious but important agenda in 2022.

Key topics for discussion include:

  • challenges to the global health system
  • global economic recovery
  • international financial architecture
  • financial sector regulation and inclusion
  • infrastructure
  • international taxation.

As an economy, which has outperformed all major advanced economies through the pandemic and one which now sees more people employed than before COVID‑19, Australia is uniquely placed to share our experience with the world.

The meetings will also provide an important opportunity to discuss current and future challenges and opportunities with our regional neighbours and other G20 economies.

This includes the global economic recovery from COVID‑19 and ensuring Australia’s economic interests are protected, while reaffirming our commitment to an open, free, rules‑based trading system.

I look forward to representing Australia’s interests in this forum and strengthening our relationships with Indonesia and other G20 members.
