Bayside Gallery is proud to officially open two art exhibitions, Bayside Local and Refuge, workshop, stage, site: Billilla Artist Studios 2022-23 at Brighton Town Hall from 16 November to 25 February 2024.
Bayside Local
Bayside Local presents an eclectic and energising array of works that range from traditional landscape painting to intriguing textile pieces, photographic images and experimental ceramic forms. Bayside Local showcases the talents of 33 professional artists living, working or studying in Bayside, or those whose works display a connection to the unique landscape of our beautiful municipality.
Refuge, workshop, stage, site: Billilla artist studios 2022-23
This exhibition includes a selection of works by artists who were the recipients of a 12-month studio at Brighton’s historic mansion Billilla in 2022 and 2023. Featuring the work of Yvette Coppersmith, Sarah crowEST, Carolyn Cardinet, Noni Drew, Marie Honoré, Sean McDowell and Steffie Wallace.
The 2022 and 2023 Billilla Studio artists have used the outbuildings of the historic property in Halifax Street, Brighton, to fuel their creative purpose. Each artist spent 12 months creating new works and engaging with our community from their studio space, delivering workshops, artists talks and now providing works to exhibit at Bayside Gallery.
Over the last 15 years, the Billilla Artist Studio program has supported more than 80 visual artists, writers, poets, playwrights, musicians, film makers, animators, and actors with a free studio space for 12 months.
The newly elected Mayor of Bayside, Cr Fiona Stitfold said she was pleased to complete the year with two exhibitions that celebrate our local artist community.
“It’s always a joy to see the diversity and breadth of Bayside’s very own artists and experience the output of their imagination and dedication,” said Mayor Cr Stitfold.
The exhibitions are free entry and open to the public. You can visit these exhibitions until 25 February 2024.
