Game, set match at TH Hurrey Reserve

The City of Whittlesea is now home to a district level tennis facility with the completion of the redevelopment of TH Hurrey Reserve in Yan Yean.

The $4.8 million project includes a new pavilion, tennis courts, car parking, BBQ area and landscaping.

The reserve has been transformed from a four tennis court local venue to a six court district level facility.

The site includes:

  • tennis pavilion with public toilets
  • a new car park, with safer entrance from Plenty Road
  • two new acrylic/hard tennis courts
  • two upgraded synthetic grass courts
  • sports lighting
  • an undercover barbecue area, with picnic tables and seating
  • a newly landscaped grass area, perfect for picnics.

Yan Yean Tennis Club Senior coach James Howard said the exciting redevelopment will support the participation growth of Yan Yean Tennis Club and create an inviting space for both club members and the Doreen, Mernda and Whittlesea Township communities to gather and enjoy once Stage 4 restrictions are lifted.

“The courts are amazing, they’re the same surface as the Australian Open,” he said.

“To have a full kitchen, male and female toilets and showers, we’re very very lucky.”

The project was made possible thanks to a $100,000 contribution from Sport and Recreation Victoria.

TH Hurrey Reserve is located at 1925A Plenty Road, Yan Yean.
