The world’s top tennis players have arrived in Western Australia for the United Cup tournament, with Team Australia today being treated to a visit to Perth’s iconic island paradise, Rottnest Island, ahead of their campaign on court starting this Friday.
The visit showcased Rottnest’s beautiful beaches and smiling quokkas to the team’s global social media fan bases, numbered in the hundreds of thousands, as hype for the tournament builds.
Team Australia, spearheaded by fan favourites including world No.12 Alex de Minaur, Ajla Tomljanovic, John Millman and Ellen Perez, as well as two of WA’s very own, world No.1 doubles star Storm Hunter and world No.4 doubles player Matt Ebden, will face Great Britain on Friday, 29 December 2023 from 5pm AWST, before playing defending champions the United States on Monday, 1 January 2024.
The United Cup will be co-hosted by Perth and Sydney starting from Friday, 29 December 2023, and will feature mixed teams of some of the best female and male players in the world across 18 countries, with each city to host nine teams who will compete in a round robin format for a minimum AUD $15 million in prize money, plus 500 ATP and WTA world ranking points.
RAC Arena will host the United Cup group stage from Friday, 29 December 2023 to Wednesday, 3 January2024, with an incredible lineup featuring Team Serbia, led by world No. 1 Novak Djokovic; Team Poland, led by world No.1 Iga witek; local favourites Team Australia; and defending champions USA, featuring world No.5 Jessica Pegula and world No.10 Taylor Fritz.
The pools for the event include Group A (Poland, Spain, Brazil), Group C (USA, Great Britain, Australia) and Group E (Czech Republic, China, Serbia).
