Geelong Cricket Club will be elevated to the Kookaburra Women’s Premier Cricket Firsts competition next season.
Geelong Cricket Club will be elevated to the Kookaburra Women’s Premier Cricket Firsts competition next season.
The move will see Geelong enter a women’s team in the top level of women’s club cricket for the first time.
Over the course of the 2022-23 season, Geelong has reached the required on and off-field performance criteria to be considered for inclusion.
Greenvale Kangaroos Cricket Club will continue to compete in the Premier 2nds competition as it seeks to complete the performance criteria.
Cricket Victoria GM of Premier Cricket Liam Murphy congratulated Geelong.
“Significant work and investment has gone into Geelong’s women’s program over the last few years and they are to be congratulated on their efforts. Women’s cricket has strong support from across the Bellarine Peninsula community and we’re looking forward to having them join the competition in 2023-24,” Murphy said.
“I’d also like to recognise the work of Greenvale and the path they’re on. We look forward to supporting the growth of women’s cricket in the northern metropolitan region.”
