Geelong police release CCTV images after spate of rock throwing incidents

Geelong police have released CCTV images of three people they would like to speak to as they continue to investigate a series of rock throwing incidents from overpasses along the Geelong Ring Road.

Seven incidents have been reported to police over the past month, including:

• On Wednesday 22 June, a man was heading outbound when a rock struck his front windscreen while passing under the Creamery Road overpass, shortly after 6am. Luckily he was not injured.

• On Thursday 23 June, a man was travelling inbound when a rock struck his front windscreen while passing under the Creamery Road overpass, about 2am. He sustained minor injuries after his vehicle side swiped the barrier.

• On Tuesday 28 June, a man and a woman were travelling in separate vehicles in convoy inbound when rocks struck both vehicles, hitting the windscreen and bonnet of the first vehicle and the roof of the second vehicle, about 10.20pm. Luckily they were not injured.

• On Monday 11 July, a woman was travelling outbound when a rock struck her front windscreen while passing under the Creamery Road overpass, about 7.30am. Luckily she was not injured.

• On Wednesday 13 July, a man was travelling inbound when a rock struck his front windscreen while passing under the Creamery Road overpass, shortly after midnight. Luckily he was not injured (see photo of smashed windscreen below)

• On Saturday 16 July, a man and a woman were travelling inbound when a rock struck the side of their vehicle while passing under the Anakie Road overpass, shortly after midnight. Luckily they were not injured.

Police believe the three people captured in the CCTV footage may be able to assist them with their enquires into the most recent rock throwing incident on Saturday 16 July under the Anakie Road overpass.

It is unclear at this stage whether the seven incidents are related.

Since the first incident on Wednesday 22 June, police have ramped up patrols in the area as part of the investigation into these matters.

Police are also appealing for any witnesses, particularly those with dashcam footage from around the Ring Road area at the time of these incidents, to come forward.
