General Manager and Deputy General Manager Announcements

Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) Commissioner Peter Martin APM today announced the appointment of Richard Butcher as the General Manager of the Lotus Glen Correctional Centre (LGCC), as well as number of redeployments.

Commencing at LGCC on July 13, Mr Butcher was recruited from Department of Corrections WA where he was the Superintendent of Hakea Prison, Pardelup Prison Farm and Roebourne Regional Prison since 2011.

Mr Butcher’s career began in the UK Prison Service where over 24 years he progressed to Deputy Governor, working across areas including physical education, prisoner management, security, custody and re-settlement.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Criminology and Management from the University of Cambridge.

Commissioner Martin welcomed Mr Butcher, saying his experience and expertise will be warmly received in the QCS.

“As an organisation, we are extremely lucky to have Richard join us and we all look forward to working with him on keeping Queensland community safe,” Commissioner Martin said.

Coinciding with the appointment, further staffing changes and appointments across Queensland have also been announced.

Mike Macfarlane, formerly General Manager of LGCC will commence as General Manager at Woodford Correctional Centre, and will be joined by Stuart McHarrie as Deputy General Manager in mid-August.

Scott Collins will commence as General Manager at Wolston Correctional Centre in August with Acting General Manager Steve Simmons returning to his role as Deputy General Manager.

Alan Houchin has commenced as Deputy General Manager at Palen Creek and Lex Buchanan will commence as Deputy General Manager at Borallon Training and Correctional Centre, while Eloise Hamlett has been appointed as Deputy General Manager of Brisbane Women’s Correctional Centre.
