- Almost 70 tonnes of steel expected to go into footings in the coming months
- New build expands existing hospital footprint by over 7,000 square metres
- Once complete, the facility will include an expanded emergency department, a new intensive care unit and high dependency unit, and an integrated mental health service
The Geraldton Health Campus redevelopment is taking shape with earthworks nearing completion, and the first concrete footings poured as part of the Cook Government’s $166 million investment to futureproof healthcare in the Mid West.
Almost 70 tonnes of steel will go into the footings in the coming months, with over 500 cubic metres of concrete being poured.
The redevelopment is the single largest investment in the Geraldton Health Campus and is expanding the existing hospital footprint by over 7,000 square metres.
The project is creating opportunities for local and Aboriginal suppliers, with Aboriginal businesses engaged to deliver traffic management and cleaning services. Local companies have also been contracted to deliver earthworks, surveying, and traffic management.
The latest work forms part of the upgrades that have already delivered an additional 400 car bays, a reconfigured main entry and a new ambulance entry.
Once complete, the redevelopment will deliver an expanded emergency department, a new intensive care unit and high dependency unit, as well as an integrated mental health service, including an adult mental health inpatient unit and a mental health short stay unit.
The redevelopment is expected to reach practical completion in 2026.
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
“It’s exciting to see this important project making progress and creating local jobs in the process.
“My Government is committed to providing a modern, fit-for-purpose facility for the people of Geraldton and I’m extremely proud to be delivering on that commitment.
“This $166 million redevelopment is the biggest investment ever made into Geraldton Health Campus by any government.”
As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:
“This project will enhance access to important health services in the Mid West region – including an expanded emergency department, new intensive care unit and integrated mental health service.
“The new build increases the existing hospital footprint by over 7,000 square metres – every inch of which will be used to boost services for the local community.”
As stated by Geraldton MLA Lara Dalton:
“The Geraldton community has been with us on this project every step of the way, and I look forward to continuing to share regular updates on our progress.
“The earthworks are now nearing completion and it is great to see this significant project taking shape.”
