Get facts about immunisation

The Morrison Government will target parents across the country with a powerful message around the need to vaccinate their children, with an enhanced $12 million campaign rolling out this week.

Areas of low vaccination rates in one, two and five year olds will be micro targeted in every state and territory under the fourth phase of the campaign.

Although immunisation rates in Australia are already high, almost at 95 per cent of five-year-old children fully vaccinated, there are areas where the immunisation rate is too low.

It is these areas of low coverage which pose risks to the community, especially to people who can’t be vaccinated, like newborns and those with medical reasons.

The science is in and the medical expert’s advice is absolute – vaccinations save lives and protect lives and they are an essential part of a healthy society.

This campaign will help parents access evidence based information to support their decision making about childhood vaccinations.

The campaign aims to educate people about the importance of vaccinating on time, vaccine safety, and the benefits of vaccination for the whole community.

Skipping or delaying vaccinations puts children and those around them at risk of catching serious diseases. It’s important that children receive their vaccine on time, every time, for the best protection.

The eight week campaign will run nationally on television for the first time, supported by a range of online channels.

Currently immunisation coverage in Australia is now just shy of the 95 per cent target for the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Immunisation Program.

Immunisation coverage for all five year olds for the four quarters to December 2019 is at 94.78 per cent.

Coverage for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children at five years is above the target at 96.87 per cent. This shows that the latest phase of our advertising campaign, which targeted parents of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children aged 0-5 years, is clearly having an impact.

The Morrison Government is a strong supporter of immunisation, investing more than $400 million each year in the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Immunisation Program.
