All things curious and crafty will be among an array of handmade items up for grabs at Upstream’s The Market of Curious Things on March 8.
Thirty stallholders will be set up around Noreuil Park, Albury between 10am to 3pm – think unique pottery, handmade jewellery and even birds created from locally grown gourds.
Three members of Creators Artspace (on the causeway) are presenting their wares. These women have been experienced craftspeople for 40 years in the local district.
Abi Thompson has created some rare birds by converting some locally grown gourds, Chris Dormer has used her printmaking skills to create printed vases capturing the landscape and making a great indoor feature and Helen Carter ( known for her 3D skills) has a selection of her copper/silver earrings and jewellery featuring small portraits and animals.
This will be an opportunity to talk to them and share in their vast range of skills and experience.
There will also be the opportunity to meet five makers during a series of free workshops including sculpture and jewellery making.
While making your way around the market be sure to meet ‘InMoov’, a 3D printed robot who can hold a conversation, and his creator Joel Hackett.
The Market of Curious Things is just one of the drawcards for Upstream’s weekend event –.
Kick the day off at 10am with The March – 5 Angry Men are collaborating with the community for this world premier.
Join them for a procession from QEII Square to Noreuil Park.
Stick around for some tunes by Alejandro – Sin Frontera Band while enjoying the market and then head on down to make a magical sculpture from clean waste destined for landfill and other ‘Bits ‘N’ Pieces’.
MRJO (Murray Riverina Jazz Orchestra) will take to the stage from 1pm to 3pm with the big band performing to a score by Murray Conservatorium.
Be sure to take time out to sample the food and relax by the river and stick around for the heart-stopping finale – professional slackliners balancing their way across the Murray River, bridging the two cities with a piece of material.
If your tummy drives your excitement, then you’ll love to know that we’ve got a huge variety of food options from a selection of worldly food trucks to dessert stations, and cool beverages.
The River Deck will also be offering great food and beverages in an unparalleled location overlooking the river.
Burn off some of that food with a meander from the River Deck Cafe to Oddies Creek to see multiple forms of sculpture.
