Being active is important at every stage of life and ageing is no barrier to getting active.
The Department of Communities Tasmania, through Communities, Sport and Recreation, aims to create opportunities for all Tasmanians to participate in sport and recreation opportunities and enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle.
The Get Active in the North and Get Active in the North West booklets provide information on ways for older adults to be active and social in their local area, whether it be playing pickleball or horse riding, joining in aqua aerobics, or playing scrabble.
The booklets encourage older adults to get out and meet others, try new activities, or simply find out what’s on offer in their local communities.
Staying active and engaged in activities helps to make individuals happier and healthier and create more active and inclusive communities.
The 2022 editions of Get Active in the North and North West are available now from libraries, councils, and Service Tasmania outlets.
The information is also available on the Department’s website at
