Getting to know you: Socialising and networking at FDIWDC23

A world-class international professional event like FDI World Dental Congress 2023 (FDIWDC23; 23-27 September) offers a great deal to anyone who chooses to attend.

There is, of course, the ability to see presentations by experts from Australia and around the world in person, speaking about a dazzling array of topics in a scientific programme that offers far more than a domestic event alone might perhaps have to offer.

Then there is the opportunity to wander around the exhibition, finding out about products and services that will enrich your practice of dentistry and allow you to treat your patients even more effectively than you already do.

What do you get from networking at an event like FDIWDC23? Quite a few things, according to employment site indeed. Try these on for size:

• Strengthening previous connections: Conferences are a great place to build and improve existing professional relationships.

• Improving career prospects: You might learn about potential job opportunities or meet people with whom you can collaborate professionally at a conference.

• Developing soft skills: Communication, presentation and time management are all skills you can develop by attending conferences.

• Learning about the industry: Presenters or attendees may have information about industry-wide changes or forecasts that can help shape your work.

• Identifying potential mentors: You could meet a fellow attendee willing to mentor you and assist in your career development.

Finally, and this can be every bit as important and career enhancing as the first two facets, is the chance to spend quality time catching up with colleagues and friends at a range of social events that include a formal dinner and a more relaxed cocktail event.

Fully cognisant of the role networking and socialising plays in the Congress experience, the team behind FDIWDC23 is working hard to give you plenty of opportunities to enjoy great Australian food and wine whilst catching up with friends and colleagues… and hopefully even making new connections!
