Glow Winter Arts Festival 2019

Winter skies will shine bright in a spectacular display of immersive, interactive and illuminated installations at Malvern East’s beautiful and historic Central Park.

Returning for a sixth year, the Glow Winter Arts Festival will run 15-18 August 2019, 6pm-10pm each night in Central Park, Malvern East.

This year’s curated program includes site specific installations and premiere works. The City of Stonnington Mayor, Cr Steve Stefanopoulos, said he was thrilled to see them come to life.

“This year artists respond to the themes of wonder and awe. With towering heights and transcendent light displays, these works inspire conversation and ignite curiosity,” said Cr Steve Stefanopoulos.

Festival favourite Mandylights return with Wonderdome, ready to transport you to another universe of light. From a distance festival goers witness a dome of light, glowing and pulsing. The globes appear to be suspended in mid-air as they approach. Stepping inside the dome, the globes swirl and illuminate with every colour of the rainbow.

Visually and sonically inspired by the Great Barrier Reef, Minor Disturbance by The Indirect Object is an interactive installation bringing into focus the awe-inspiring beauty of our ocean and the plastic pollution that threatens it. With handmade sculptures created from recycled plastic bottles, bags, jars and wire, the organic shapes mimic the natural fluorescent corals of the sea.

This year’s festival also features digital projections on unusual surfaces, including Secrets of the Golden Elm Tree by The Electric Canvas, that encourages visitors to discover an enchanted universe and garden filled with shimmering light.

PixALL presents a theatrical light production Seasons, a playful interpretation of Melbourne’s daily weather. Exploring the never-ending cycle of Seasons, by transforming the environment with a blend of lighting, digital projections and sound.

A giant puppet standing at just over 5 metres tall will be brought to life by festival goers, working together to bring this marionette to life. String Symphony by Leon Hendroff and Spare Parts Puppet Theatre is a highly interactive installation that explores connection, community and collaboration.
