Gold Coast Police Recruitment Seminar hosts all female panel ahead of International Women’s Day

In honour of International Women’s Day, occurring this Friday, the Queensland Police Service (QPS) hosted an all-female panel for the sold out QPS recruiting information seminar, held at Broadbeach PCYC on Monday, March 4.

Seminar presenters included Regional Recruiting Officer (RRO) Claire Puia-Prebble, District Crime Prevention Co-Ordinator Senior Constable Margaux O’Reilly and Youth Club Manager Sergeant Cherie McLean.

With over 35 years of police service between them, Senior Constable O’Reilly and Sergeant McLean spoke about their respective journeys and careers, as female officers.

They discussed the qualities women can bring to the workforce and shared their insights on balancing policing careers with busy personal lives.

Senior Constable Margaux O’Reilly drew comparisons between female attributes and those required within the service.

“Qualities such as empathy and intuition come naturally to most women along with being effective communicators,” said Senior Constable O’Reilly.

“We are also experts at balancing our family, work and home lives. These qualities are highly transferable to work as a Police Officer.”

Tickets to the Gold Coast seminar sold out in days, proving interest in a policing career with the QPS has never been greater amongst people looking for a challenging and rewarding career.

“We were blown away by the interest down here on the Gold Coast, but with the incredible incentives on offer and endless opportunities to work all over Queensland, we can understand the enthusiasm,” said RRO Claire.

There’s never been a better time to join the Queensland Police Service, with endless opportunities on offer for women interested in a policing career.

Sergeant McLean explained, “The people you meet and work with and the variety of roles within the same organisation are the most rewarding aspects”.
