· Tasmanians deserve petrol prices in line with other jurisdictions
· Motorists sick of being ripped off
· Petrol retailers must be urged to act with honesty
The Government must introduce laws to help Tasmanians identify the best petrol prices and avoid motorists from being ripped off at the bowser.
Shadow Minister for Consumer Affairs, Jen Butler, said it’s not fair that Tasmanian petrol retailors are not reducing prices in line with other jurisdictions and that it’s time for the Government to act.
“At a time when so many Tasmanians are struggling financially and global oil prices have plummeted, petrol retailers must pass on savings to customers,” Ms Butler said.
“The wholesale price of fuel per litre is not readily available to Tasmanian motorists and the Government must do more to allow motorists to see which service stations are ripping them off at the bowser.
“Labor urges the Government to act quickly to enforce the weekly publication of petrol prices by legislation.
“There is no justification for such obvious and unfair mark ups of fuel prices – especially when the impacts of COVID-19 have forced thousands of Tasmanians in to financial hardship.”
