Premier Jeremy Rockliff and Treasurer Michael Ferguson must come clean and release the full cost benefit analysis for their proposed $750 million Hobart stadium.
MI Global Partners completed two stadium reports – one looking at the seating capacity of a stadium and a cost benefit analysis. The seating capacity report is freely available but the full cost benefit analysis appears to have been buried.
The Liberal Government has deliberately kept Tasmanians in the dark about this cost benefit analysis report because they know the figures just don’t stack up.
We know from the cost-benefit summary on page 60 of the business case that instead of the stadium bringing in the millions that the Government keeps claiming, the state will be $306 million worse off over the life of the project.
What else does the full report say and what is Premier Rockliff trying to hide?
Tasmania already has two AFL compliant stadiums with well-established plans to upgrade UTAS Stadium.
The figures the Liberals have published destroy the Premier’s argument that the stadium will grow the state’s economy and help pay for essential services.
Tasmania is in the grips of a health, housing and cost of living crisis and building this stadium will only make it harder to pay for the essential services and cost of living relief Tasmanians need.
There is no excuse. The government must provide Tasmanians will the full analysis before asking them to sign up to what appears to be a reckless waste of taxpayers’ money.
