With the cancellation or downscaling of large projects both here and interstate due to cost blowouts becoming normal news, Premier Jeremy Rockliff continues to keep his head buried in the sand regarding the Mac Point stadium.
Despite overwhelming evidence that projects are going way over budget, the Liberals have said they remain committed to the stadium’s $715 million budget, even with the strict conditions the AFL is demanding on the build.
Given there are no detailed designs, and the original costings were dreamt up on the back of an envelope close to 18 months ago – something doesn’t add up.
However, the Liberals continue to treat Tasmanians with contempt as they push full steam ahead in pursuit of their reckless promise – blind to the fact that other projects are doubling or tripling in costs.
If Jeremy Rockliff is serious about sticking to his $715 million budget for the stadium, he needs to come clean to Tasmanians about how he is going to do it.
