Grab Co-Founder Tan Hooi Ling joins NUS Board of Trustees

The ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ University of Singapore (NUS) today announced the appointment of technology entrepreneur Ms Tan Hooi Ling to the NUS Board of Trustees with effect from 1 June 2019.

Ms Tan is Co-Founder of Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading super app that offers the region’s 650 million users the widest range of on-demand transport, food and package delivery services, as well as payments and financial services. Prior to joining Grab full-time in 2015, Ms Tan led strategic projects at Salesforce.com, working at the company’s San Francisco headquarters. Before joining Salesforce.com, Ms Tan was a consultant at McKinsey & Company, advising global corporations in Southeast Asia, North America, Latin America and Australia on corporate strategy and operations. Ms Tan holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) from the University of Bath, and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.

Grab co-founder Ms Tan Hooi Ling joins the NUS Board of Trustees from 1 June 2019

In line with the NUS board renewal policy, three members of the NUS Board of Trustees – Mr Goh Yew Lin, Managing Director of GK Goh Holdings Ltd; Mr Phillip Tan Eng Seong, Director of EQ Insurance Company Ltd; and Dr Noeleen Heyzer, Social Scientist and former United Nations Under-Secretary-General – had earlier stepped down from the Board on 31 March 2019.

Mr Hsieh Fu Hua, Chairman of the NUS Board, said, “We warmly welcome Hooi Ling to the NUS Board of Trustees. Her expertise and experience in technology and entrepreneurship will benefit NUS immensely as we pursue our mission in education and research with a spirit of innovation and enterprise.”

“We also want to extend our deep appreciation to Yew Lin, Phillip and Noeleen for their significant contributions and dedication towards NUS. We are grateful and privileged to be able to draw on their continuing support as they will still be helping us in different roles within the University,” said Mr Hsieh.

Members of the Board of Trustees are appointed by the Minister for Education. The Board is made up of eminent figures from the public sector, academia, business and the various professions. The Board works closely with the management and stakeholders of the University to shape its vision, chart the major directions, and guide significant initiatives.
