Queensland Rail is giving up to 20 new university graduates the opportunity to fast-track their careers, with the first round of applications now open for its 2020 graduate program.
Queensland Rail CEO Nick Easy said Queensland Rail was looking for new or soon-to-be graduates from a range of disciplines to apply for positions across its Network Engineering and Citytrain business areas.
“I’m pleased to announce the launch of Queensland Rail’s recruitment campaign for our 2020 graduate program, which will see successful applicants participate in a dynamic two-year rotational program, starting with engineering graduates in our Network division, which is open for recruitment now,” Mr Easy said.
“Queensland Rail’s Network division is responsible for the maintenance of more than 6,600 kilometres of track across the state-wide network, spanning an array of environments and conditions with niche challenges to overcome.
“Graduates with civil, electrical and software engineering degrees are encouraged to apply by 27 March 2019, with further opportunities in the Citytrain function to be recruited for in July 2019.
“Queensland Rail has a proud history of supporting graduates, apprentices and trainees by providing them with the skills and support that will set them up for a career, not just a job.
“Through the tailored graduate program, graduates will receive valuable support and mentoring from business leaders, allowing them to gain real-world experiences, on the job training and an unrivalled advantage over other graduates.”
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said Queensland Rail was committed to helping entry-level professionals carve out a successful career within the organisation and the broader rail industry.
“With more than five million people expected to call South East Queensland home by 2031, the Queensland Rail graduate program is an exciting opportunity to be part of the organisation as the Queensland Government prepares to meet future public transport demand and deliver exciting projects like Cross River Rail,” Mr Bailey said.
“Jobs are the number one priority of the Palaszczuk Government. More than 180,000 jobs have been created since we were elected in 2015, including 3,500 full time jobs in January this year.
“Australia’s rail industry employs more than 140,000 people and contributes more than $26 billion towards the national economy each year. Our graduate program is a great opportunity to be part of a thriving industry and gain valuable skills in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
“The graduate program complements other Queensland Rail initiatives, including the state’s first-ever school-based rail training program that was introduced last year with TAFE SkillsTech and a brand-new traineeship program helping newly migrated residents gain construction skills.”
