Graduation day for officers of Course 48, South Australia

Today marks a special day for the 23 course members of Course 48 who graduated today at the South Australia Police Academy at 1pm.

The course members are aged between 21 and 25 years and prior to applying with SAPOL came from a variety of employment and industry backgrounds. This includes the industries of sales, trades, human resources, primary industry, medical, corrections, hospitality, fitness and the armed forces. Five of the graduates were previously Protective Security Officers with SAPOL.

A number of the graduates were born overseas including the countries of Saudi Arabia, the United States of America and England. In addition, one graduate was born in Arrernte Country in the Northern Territory.

The 23 graduates will be posted to a number of areas across South Australia, including nine graduates who will be posted to country and regional areas. This includes the areas of Berri, Murray Bridge, Kadina, Victor Harbor and Whyalla.

These graduates join the 6000 strong SAPOL team who help to ensure the safety and security of more than 1.6 million people each and every day through our policing and community services. After spending some time in general duties and building up their skills and experience in the field, they can start to explore the more than 40 specialist policing areas and many career pathways open to police officers.

The new Probationary Constables are well prepared for their policing career following six months of Police Academy based training, where they combined academic studies in law, policy and procedure with practical and physical training, then completed operational placements in metropolitan District or regional Local Service Areas, Traffic Services Branch and in custodial care environments.

Before embarking on their training program at the Police Academy, their journey started by successfully completing the recruiting process. It’s a comprehensive and rigorous process which not only helps SAPOL determine if people are right for the job but helps candidates confirm they have the attributes and values necessary to succeed as a police officer. They go through evaluation and testing, a panel interview, medical examination and computer and physical testing.

Are you looking for an exciting new career and the chance to make a positive contribution to your community? At SAPOL our policing and community services help to ensure the safety and security of more than 1.6 million people each and every day. With training courses beginning regularly there has never been a better time to join the team and achieve more.
